Normal 0 On Tuesday, June 30, 4:30 p.m., the Welfare Rights Committee and other organizations will hold a picket and protest outside the Governor’s Mansion, 1006 Summit Ave, in St. Paul. June 30th is the day before Governor Pawlenty has stated he has the “authority” to “unallot” money from the state budget.

Pawlenty has declared himself  dictator.  He is abusing a process that was intended for emergencies, not for a politician’s political gain.  While Pawlenty has his eyes on national ambitions, he intends to leave a destroyed Minnesota in his wake.  Pawlenty is butchering programs that working people and poor families need now more than ever because the recession. Then he lets the rich get by without so much as a scratch.

The state of MN is in an economic crisis. More people need help. There is increased need for human services, education and aid to local governments. The state legislature has already cut these programs to the bone. The people of MN cannot take the governor cutting another dime.

It is an outrage that the governor is going behind closed doors to make these cuts.  It is criminal that the governor has refused to do the right thing: If the state needs money, the state should go to where the money is. Tax the rich to balance the budget. Don’t make poor and working people suffer even more.

Pawlenty, in saying he will not seek another term, is the ultimate “cut and run” chicken-hawk. The governor’s attacks will hurt tens of thousands of people. Bullies must be stood up to, and Pawlenty must be stopped.
