16 MINNESOTA GROUPS TO MN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION: REPROCESSING OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE FROM PRAIRIE ISLAND, OTHER REACTORS “NOT A SOLUTION”

MINNEAPOLIS, MN.///September 30, 2009///Minnesota’s Congressional delegation is hearing today from a diverse group of 16 Minnesota organizations – including Clean Water Action, Environment Minnesota, Sierra Club North Star Chapter and the Minnesota Peace Project – that strongly oppose any effort to open the door to the reprocessing of radioactive waste from Prairie Island and other nuclear reactors when Capitol Hill considers climate and energy legislation.

Thursday: The People's Anger and the Property Destruction Debate Both Rage On

Part One by haloka

The [People's Uprising] march has a potential for violence because it is unapproved and the organizers cannot be held responsible for the behavior of the attendees. Our Intel has identified about 400 people who will be attending and an accurate count of all others isn't feasible. Rest assured that we are well prepared to respond to this march and the possibility of any property damage in the Strip is minimal.

G20 Resistance Dispatch #1: "Nobody Wants it Here"

Here in the Steel City, "nobody wants it here," said one of our hosts of the G20, and we've yet to refute his conclusion.  While out-of-town activists pour into the city to supplement the opposition at home, many residents with the desire privilege to be able to escape the police siege are going the opposite direction.  Many of those who are staying here aren't quite sure what to expect.

We're Going to the Pittsburgh G20... Are You?

Nigel Parry: From St. Paul to Pittsburgh: Citizen Media is Not a Crime

Twin Cities Indymedia volunteers (<--- that could be you!) are travelling to the upcoming
G20 summit and resistance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Just before the summit in which leaders of 20 wealthy nations will unaccountably make economic decisions affecting billions of people, Pittsburgh will also be host to a major coal industry conference.  And throughout the week, climate and economic justice activists from across the country, including from Minnesota, will seek to upstage the official story through marches, educational forums, tent cities, a climate camp and other tactics.

Those of us in the steel city will be regularly sending back photos, video and written reports about the real story--the one outside the David Lawrence Convention Center.  Check back to this post September 20-27 or to
Pittsburgh Indymedia and G-Infinity Media at IndyPGH.orgStream the live G-Infinity radio broadcasts throughout the week, and follow @g20IMC or #g20IMC on twitter.

Are you going to Pittsburgh from the upper Midwest?  We want to hear your story!  Leave your contact info below or use our contact form to get in touch!

U of MN SDS Unfurls a New School Year

Mpls, MN – Thursday Sept 3, 2009 members of the U of MN SDS chapter infiltrated ‘welcome week’ convocation to drop banners. Convocation at the University of Minnesota has historically been an event to welcome thousands of new students to the university and sing the praises of the University administration. ‘Welcome Week’ is increasingly closed off to any issue that runs counter to the administration’s message.
