Open Letter from Hugh Farrell, I-69 arrestee

Hugh Farrell was arrested April 24, 2009, along with Gina "Tiga" Wertz, on Corrupt Business Influence/Racketeering charges for publicly organizing in opposition to the controversial I-69 superhighway. These charges carry a maximum of 12 years in prison. Support is still needed, including funds, since less than a third of their total estimated legal costs of $30,000 has been raised so far. This is his first public statement since being arrested:

Two anti-I-69 organizers in Indiana were arrested by state police with the assistance of the FBI Friday. Tiga and Hugh are both being charged with two counts of conversion, two counts of intimidation and one count of corrupt business influence, stemming from actions surrounding the I-69 campaign. Both are being held in the Pike County, Indiana jail; the phone number there is 812-354-6024.

Fifteen people were arrested Monday morning in a blockade at Gohmann Asphalt in Indiana, a contractor for I-69. There is a report that at least one woman of the group is being sexually harassed and refused food in jail.

The arrestees are engaged in jail solidarity - refusing to cooperate with the booking process. Call the Gibson County Jail (you will need to get through their central dispatch) at 812-385-3496 to demand the release and fair treatment of all 15 people arrested.
