Decolonizing Ourselves: The True Face Behind Minnesota's History

One of Minnesota’s more overtly colonialist institutions, the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) does not allow the public access to the true history of how our fair cities came to be. In late July, several white people committed to exposing the lies of Minnesota’s official history attended a Civil War/ War of 1862 tour at the MNHS’ flagship attraction – Fort Snelling. The mere act of understanding the real history that we are all very much a part of is an integral part of fostering change within our movements. If what we truly want to accomplish is revolutionary social change, we must begin with these simple actions that foster a true story to be told. But what story was told at Fort Snelling on that day? Update On Charges Against University of Minnesota SDS

As many know, members of SDS at the University of Minnesota are facing charges, having supposedly breached the student conduct code by dropping banners at freshman convocation on September 3rd of 2009. These charges include theft, disorderly conduct, misuse of university facilities, and unauthorized access of a university building. What is more, SDS members were charged without proof or evidence of any particular individual’s involvement.



Individuals still enrolled at the U of M were obligated to meet individually with the Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity (OSCAI). After the first few meetings it was clear to us that the university was employing scare tactics as a way to dismantle the group and turn members against one another. The OSCAI interviewers claimed that suspension, expulsion, and a revocation of degrees would be possible, and one member did in fact note that the interviewer questioned their ability to graduate.


Breakthrough in Leslie Parks case!

Thanks to all of your calls to IndyMac/OneWest, we are seeing some incredible progress!

1. IndyMac/OneWest initiated phone contact with Leslie on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 24. This is after months of not being able to talk to them.

2. On Wednesday, Nov. 25, IndyMac/OneWest started the process of rescinding the May Sheriffs Sale! This means that eviction proceedings, which could have started the 30th, will not happen. * It is a fantastic development for many reasons.

Health Bill Ignores Industrial Health Harms

Health care bill, now in hands of the Senate, ignores every industrial threat and harm to health. It finds that people's behavior is the biggest threat. Could this be because all Senators are economically-linked to health-harming industries, AND their insurers and investors? Sworn and public-paid Congress members wouldn't go AWOL on their solemn oaths and duties to the people, would they?

A brochure distributed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) shows a picture of President Ahmadinejad of Iran, speaking about Zionism.  The caption says “Israel’s greatest threats,” echoing the line that Israel intends the world to believe: that Iran poses the greatest threat to Israel, and therefore to the US, because of its crazy dictatorial leader, and his talk about wiping Israel off the map. 

But on the facing page of the same brochure is a picture of a young woman holding a sign that says “End Aid to Israel.”  Still under the same heading of “Israel’s greatest threats,” AIPAC shows that this non-violent demonstrator clearly poses the greater threat to Israel, greater even than that psychotic Ahmadinejad.
